R&D SCIENTIST

For one of our pharmaceutical clients in Beerse, we are currently looking for an R&D SCIENTIST.

The Nonclinical Safety organisation (NCS) is responsible for supporting the selection of safe drug candidates and performing nonclinical safety studies during development, for several therapeutic areas. 
The Mechanistic and Investigative Toxicology department (MIT) is an important partner within NCS and responsible for (1) developing and validating high-throughput assays and (2) performing mechanistic in vitro studies as follow up of observations in (pre-) clinical studies. 

Your responsibilities: 

  • Execute independently in vitro screening assays, compliant to the protocol and within the expected cycling times
  • Ensure high experimental quality and acurate capture and scientific interpretation of data
  • Be responsible for the lab logistics and data management, ensuring data integrity
  • Writing reports and clearly communicate to requestors
  • Assist the scientists involved in transfer of established assays to automation, to build efficient, semi-automated high throughput screening (HTS)
  • Support scientists to explore toxicity issues in mechanism-based assays
  • Work closely together with colleagues and direct chef in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Handle BSL2 agents and cell-based assays in accordance with EHS policies 

Required skills :

  • You have a Bachelor or Master’s degree in life sciences (preferably in cellular biology/molecular biology) with 4 or more years of productive experience in a high-quality academic, biotech or pharmaceutical environment
  • You have considerable knowledge and practical experience of aseptic technique, culturing of mammalian cell lines (adherent and suspension)
  • You have knowledge of assay development and the use of automation and HTS instrumentation
  • You are able to rapidly learn and apply new techniques
  • You have experience with independently solving issues during performance of the in vitro assays
  • You can work with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and can rapidly learn new systems/software packages
  • You possess a good understanding of the operational processes in a drug discovery environment related to lab facilities, equipment, safety and data management
  • You are flexible
  • You have strong organizational skills and are detail-oriented
  • You are a good communicator (including English writing and speaking)
